WTP AWARD RECIPIENT MEETING
The NIEHS Worker Training Program (WTP) Award Recipient Meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
The Award Recipient meeting will be hybrid for those who cannot travel to attend. The meeting is scheduled to run from 1:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. EDT.
Purpose of the Award Recipient Meeting
The semi-annual WTP Award Recipient Meeting brings award recipients together to provide program updates, exchange information regarding training, and discover new areas of interest to award recipients. All are welcome to attend the Award Recipient Meeting, but you should check with your consortium’s Principal Investigator (PI) before registering for the Award Recipient Meeting.
WORKSHOP
The workshop, AI and the Future of Worker Safety and Health Training Part 1 will be held on Thursday and Friday, May 28 - 29, 2026. The workshop is sponsored by The Atlantic Center for Occupational Health and Safety Training (Atlantic COHST) and co-sponsored by WTP.
The workshop will be in-person only and is scheduled to run from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. EDT on Thursday and 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. EDT on Friday.
Overview of the Workshop
The purpose of the NIEHS Spring 2026 WTP Workshop is to provide a space for NIEHS WTP award recipients and industry experts to discuss opportunities and challenges related to AI in the workplace. Through panel discussions with AI experts and collaborative, working breakout sessions, the workshop will help award recipients understand possible hazards that may arise from AI-driven technologies, develop risk assessment frameworks to mitigate these hazards, and explore applications of AI technologies to support worker health and safety.
Workshop Objectives
- Identify AI-Related Issues or Hazards in the Workplace: Map the current landscape of AI‑related occupational hazards across sectors served by the Worker Training Program, identifying emerging risks and gaps in worker protections.
- Leverage AI Technologies for Worker Safety and Health: Identify and evaluate promising AI applications that can enhance worker protection, using criteria developed during the workshop.
- Share Strategies to Assess AI Technologies in the Workplace: Develop a risk‑assessment framework tailored to AI technologies and their implications for workplace health and safety.
- Discuss AI-Related Updates to the Minimum Criteria: Establish a cross‑award recipient working group tasked with developing preliminary recommendations for incorporating AI‑related considerations into the WTP Minimum Criteria in preparation for the Fall Workshop.
