HELPFUL INFORMATION
Stanford Intern Residence Program
Interns will live together in the same residence hall throughout the summer, creating a vibrant living and learning community with opportunities to build meaningful connections with fellow participants.
The residence features a small shared kitchen on the ground floor, equipped with a refrigerator and microwave—ideal for storing and reheating meals. While the space is not designed for extensive cooking, you are welcome to bring your own utensils for added convenience.
Laundry facilities are also located on the ground floor and include complimentary commercial washers and dryers available exclusively for interns.
Please note that the residence is not air-conditioned; however, you are welcome to bring a personal fan. As all amenities are shared, we encourage you to be considerate of your fellow residents and to take responsibility for your personal belongings during your stay.
Getting Around Stanford
Biking is a convenient and sustainable way to get around the beautiful campus of Stanford University. With an extensive network of bike lanes, racks, and support services, the university makes cycling both accessible and efficient. Stanford’s nationally recognized bike program combines education, thoughtful infrastructure, and safety initiatives to promote responsible riding and reduce traffic congestion—helping create a safer, greener environment for everyone.
Stanford’s free Marguerite buses travel around campus, connect to transit, and travel to nearby hotels, shopping, dining, and entertainment. The main shuttle lines operate Monday - Friday throughout the year, (excluding university holidays), from roughly 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Since start and end times vary by line, check specific Marguerite schedules at https://transportation.stanford.edu/getting-stanford/marguerite/shuttle-lines-and-schedules. Parking
Interns who bring a car to campus and wish to park in residential assigned parking areas must obtain a residential parking permit. Permits may be purchased through Stanford Transportation. Please visit https://transportation.stanford.edu/parking-stanford for details on parking options and rates.
Dining
Your program does not include a meal plan. There are several campus facilities where meals can be purchased during regular business hours. Please pay attention to dining hall and café hours. Many restaurant options are off-campus within easy driving distance from the main campus. We will share more information closer to the program start date.
Internet Access
Wireless internet service during your campus stay is available through Stanford's Academic Computing department, and the charge is built into your nightly rate.
Mail & Packages
The Housing Service Center cannot accept mail or packages on your behalf. If you need to receive packages, Stanford has its own post office on campus that provides full mailing services and post office box rentals. Visit the USPS Office located in White Plaza near Ttresidder Memorial Union. You can also consider asking your department sponsor to receive your mail at their campus mailing address on your behalf.
Campus Facilities, Services & Other Highlights
Some recreational facilities, services, and tours are available for a nominal fee to summer visitors upon presentation of a government-issued ID and/or a conference ID card. The conference ID card is proof that you are affiliated with a conference or a Stanford department during the summer. You may obtain a conference ID card from your Housing Service Center.
Guests:
Overnight guests are not allowed in campus housing, and they are not permitted in the residence during quiet hours. Quiet hours are between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. daily. Any guest who stays overnight is deemed an unauthorized occupant, and you will be subject to unauthorized occupancy charges, which are $225/ day. You are responsible for ensuring that your guests depart before quiet hours begin and for their compliance with this guest policy.
Lost Key and/or Fob Fees:
Keys and fobs MUST be returned to the Housing Service Center upon check-out. Guests are required to accept liability for misplaced keys. If keys are not returned at check-out, guests will be charged for the cost of rekeying the room/apartment or the replacement of a building access fob. For security purposes, locks to rooms/apartments will be changed immediately once a key has been reported lost and/or after check-out if the key is not returned.
Mail & Packages:
The Housing Service Center managing this residence cannot accept packages or mail. Please set up a P.O. Box at the US Post Office on campus located in Tresidder Memorial Union, or ask your department sponsor to receive your mail on your behalf.
Meals:
Stanford Dining, Hospitality, & Auxiliary Cafes are within walking distance to the residence. The Market at Munger is a convenient grocery located in the lobby of Jacobson-Sorensen Hall at Munger Graduate Residence, beside the Law School. Check for summer hours before visiting a cafe. Summer meal plans in a dining hall will be available for purchase from Stanford Dining starting in June. NSSH families will receive information prior to their move-in date.
Pets and Animals:
Pets or live animals of any kind, including those housed in aquariums or terrariums, are prohibited in all university residences, unless they are a service animal approved by the Office of Accessible Education. If you are found to have a pet or live animal in residence, you will be charged an administrative fee of $100/day from the date it is discovered until it is permanently removed from your residence. You will also be charged a mandatory cleaning fee due to the extra cleaning needed to bring the room or apartment back to a standard for a student who may have an animal allergy. Failure to comply may also result in losing housing privileges.
