Families as Literacy Champions: Partnering for Student Success
|Families play a pivotal role in supporting their child as they learn to read – and when parents and caregivers are informed, engaged, and empowered as respected partners in their child’s educational experiences; students thrive. However, families often lack access to clear, transparent information about their child’s reading progress and how their school or district is supporting their student’s literacy development.
This webinar will showcase how family advocacy and engagement strengthens both individual student outcomes and system-wide literacy reforms. Panelists will spotlight programs and initiatives across the country that are equipping families with tools, knowledge, and opportunities to advocate for district- and state-level changes in literacy instruction.
Participants will leave with:
- Strategies for mobilizing families and communities in support of initiatives to advance literacy instructions.
- Best practices from community-wide efforts that have effectively engaged families in their district’s literacy reform efforts to better meet all students’ needs
- Considerations for advocates on how to start building literacy-focused partnerships with families
This is the first session in a three-part webinar series entitled Literacy Unlocked. Throughout the series, EdTrust will unpack how education advocates can ensure that schools are resourced adequately and equitably to help every student become a skillful, engaged reader.
