Stopping Substance Use Before It Starts: What Families and Courts Can Do
Substance use doesn't begin in adulthood—it often starts in childhood for youth exposed to trauma, instability, or parental substance use. Without early intervention, risks can lead to lifelong struggles with addiction and mental health challenges. This session tackles the urgent challenge of preventing substance use before it begins. Drawing on the latest prevention science, presenters will explore how collaborations, such as family treatment court professionals, and caregivers can disrupt the cycle by applying evidence-based strategies that strengthen protective factors and support healthy development.
