Beyond the Spec: Selecting Drainage Systems for Long-Term Performance

Tuesday, September 1, 2026
5:00 PM-6:00 PM

Drains perform as part of an assembly, not as standalone products. This session covers how drain components interface with deck, membrane, topping, and finish layers across floor and roof conditions, then examines what changes when a specified product is substituted – and how those changes show up in the field as leaks, conflicts, and RFIs.

Learning Objectives:

- Identify the primary components of floor and roof drain assemblies and the function of each

- Explain how flashing, membrane termination, height adjustment, and support conditions affect waterproofing integrity

- Evaluate proposed substitutions against a project’s actual assembly conditions

- Apply specification and submittal review practices that protect performance through installation
