Activity Description

Impactful clinical events can often result in significant psychological distress for health care professionals, also known as, second victim syndrome. Second victims are individuals working within an environment to offer and provide care who are traumatized by exposure to clinically challenging cases and events (Scott, 2023). Through this peer training program clinicians learn to recognize second victim responses in themselves and their colleagues.

•Utilize didactic content and simulation to engage with members of the multidisciplinary team to recognize second victim response

•Utilize strategies to provide structured compassionate support after significant clinical events

•Foster and build supportive conversation, support the workforce to promote clinical, psychological, and patient safety

•Connect fellow clinicians with appropriate resources
