Overview

The Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST), to be conducted by the Vera C. Rubin Observatory beginning in 2025, will enable studies of the growing supermassive black holes (SMBHs) in active galactic nuclei (AGNs) on a truly massive scale. This workshop will enable the LSST AGN Science Collaboration (AGN SC) to (1) continue building up the effort of the AGN SC to prepare for the LSST operations in 2025 and (2) broaden the participants and interests from early career scientists by introducing the LSST AGN SC and having an interactive discussion on various aspects of AGN science in the LSST era. Although this meeting will be an in-person meeting to encourage productive discussion and foster collaborative projects,  the presentation will be recorded (with agreement) and posted later.

Venue: NRAO

National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) is the world's premier astronomical radio observatory and its Charlottesville headquarters (on the grounds of the University of Virginia) hosts the North American ALMA Science Center (NAASC). The ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter/sub-millimeter Array) has strong scientific synergy with the LSST AGN science in terms of following up on many important new discoveries from the LSST, using FIR line and continuum observation to study the gas and dust associated with AGN activity and SMBH physics.

Abstract Submission

Abstracts for contributed oral presentations (about 30min: 25min + 5 min for questions and discussions) are being accepted through April 30, 2023. In case of over-subscription, we will provide an option for poster presentation for those that were not selected for oral presentation.

Registration and Travel Support

Registration is required to attend this meeting. The cost is $100 per person and will cover lunch and snacks. 

Thanks to our NAASC sponsorship, we anticipate being able to provide financial assistance to support travel costs for early-career scientists. The number of participants for support depends on the budget and the number of received requests. The preference will be given to those who will present a talk or poster. Travel to Charlottesville

Charlottesville is a beautiful town with many interesting aspects in summer. Check this website

  • International Travel: Driving from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to Charlottesville (2 hours of driving) is a cheaper option than flying to Charlottesville Airport (CHO) and may allow more flexibility for your local transportation. Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is another option for US entry.
  • Domestic Travel: To Charlottesville airport (CHO)
