SUMMARY

India’s wind power sector is evolving rapidly, marked by several policy announcements, technology advancements, regulatory developments and shifting tariff trends. India’s wind capacity has reached over 55 GW, entirely from onshore wind, making it the second largest contributor within the renewable energy sector. However, this is still much less than the country’s wind energy potential of 1,164 GW at 150 metres. To reach the projected 155 GW of wind capacity by 2035-36, another 100 GW of wind capacity is needed. This substantial capacity addition requirement makes the sector an attractive space for developers, manufacturers, investors and service providers.

The progress in the wind power sector is supported by the expansion of hybrid projects, increasing demand for round-theclock power and a strong domestic manufacturing base. However, challenges related to land acquisition, project execution, grid connection, and uncertainties in offshore wind development must be addressed for the country to remain on track toward its 2035-36 wind projection.

Overall, India’s wind power sector presents significant opportunities for stakeholders across the value chain, driven by ambitious capacity targets, a strong project pipeline and supportive policy measures. Developers can benefit from rising tender activity, hybrid project growth and increasing demand for round-the-clock renewable power.

Equipment manufacturers and suppliers stand to gain from expanding domestic manufacturing and the shift towards larger, more efficient turbines. Opportunities are also emerging in low-wind site development, repowering and distributed wind applications. In addition, digital solutions and operations and maintenance services offer new avenues for investment as the sector scales up toward its long-term goals.

The mission of this two-day conference is to discuss growth trends, policy environment, industry perspective and plans, technology trends, key issues, and the outlook for wind power development in India. It will bring together policymakers, regulators, power utilities, grid operators, developers, wind turbine manufacturers, technology providers, contractors, O&M service providers, consultants, and financiers to discuss the emerging opportunities and the way forward for India’s wind power sector.
