TRAINING DESCRIPTION
Workshop Summary:
This is a LEVEL 2 workshop. You must complete Level 1 before taking Level 2.
This two-day workshop (conducted from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on both days) will focus on the behavioral components of serious incidents in the workplace. You will learn how to prepare for an investigation by gaining the skills to understand emotion, control cognitive bias, manage conflict, understand memory, and more. We will discuss real-world scenarios from the field and best practices in maintaining professional as well as objective investigations.
Goals will emphasize:
- Personality styles
- Preventing cognitive bias
- Role of emotion in incidents
- Maintaining professionalism
- How memory works
- Behavioral documentation
- Managing conflict
- Making the subjective more objective
The workshop includes content that will work to support NJ DHS and includes updated forms and processes.
To ensure consistency, NJACP consulted with DHS’ OPIA (Office of Program Integrity & Accountability) to gain an understanding of their investigatory process, identify the most common reported incidents, and learn of investigations conducted where questionable practices or gaps in information has occurred.
Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a certificate. To receive a certificate, participants must attend the entire training in full, leaving cameras on.
NOTE: **Completion of SIT LEVEL 1 is required to take LEVEL 2.**

TRAINER
Michelle Hall-Boggan is a Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in psychology; she also earned her Masters’s degree in Social Work from Rutgers. She has dedicated more than 20 years to the social services field. Michelle provides consultation and corporate training on Leadership, Emotional Intelligence, and Debriefings. Her experience in supervising the investigation of abuse, neglect, and exploitation allegations, coupled with her clinical education and therapeutic training, make her the perfect choice as trainer for NJACP's Ensuring an Effective Investigation of Serious Incidents series.
