What is Public Impact Research and What Does Community Engagement Have to Do with It?
Tuesday, November 10 ● CASE Building, Room E351 ● Noon-1:30 p.m.
Part of PACES' Lunch and Learn Series
Speakers:
Dr. Tanya Ennis, Director of Research Impact and Engagement – Research & Innovation Office (RIO) and the Institutes, and Dr. Tania Hogan, Executive Director of the BUENO Center, School of Education
Come learn about how CU Boulder connects public impact research and community-engaged scholarship. Dr. Tanya Ennis, director of research impact and engagement for the Research and Innovation Office and the Institutes (RIO), will provide an overview of RIO’s public impact research definition and statement. Dr. Ennis will share the pathways to achieving public impact research at CU Boulder and will bridge how projects that adopt community-engaged research serve the public good and strengthen communities.
Illustrating these approaches in practice, Dr. Tania Hogan, executive director of the BUENO Center, will share insights from BUENO’s 50 years of working alongside multilingual communities, educators, schools, districts, students and families. She will highlight how sustained relationships with communities can shape the questions we ask, the knowledge we produce, how that knowledge is translated, and what BUENO has learned about the time, relationships, reciprocity and institutional support required for public impact to endure.
Together, the session will explore the relationship between community-engaged scholarship and public impact research and invite participants to consider what these approaches might look like in their own work.
Those new to engaged scholarship and those long-established are welcome.
