Description: This introductory workshop provides a foundation for understanding gender diversity and affirming transgender and nonbinary people and their experiences. Through collaborative discussions and actionable educational content, participants will gain knowledge of essential terminology, cultural context, and best practices to foster belonging and equity for people of all genders.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop understanding of the lived inequities and systemic barriers experienced by transgender and nonbinary individuals;
  • Apply appropriate, accurate language and terminology when discussing gender identity and expression;
  • Share and ask for pronouns, understanding their significance in respectful communication and the impact of misidentification;
  • Demonstrate tangible actions and behaviors that signal inclusion and actively affirm diverse gender experiences;
  • Gain talking points to identify and disarm misinformation about transgender people and their experiences.
