Scholarship funds have been exhausted for 2023

From July 16-22, 2023, writers from around the world will once again meet at Fort Worden State Park to devote ourselves to our poems and our prose, to take risks with our writing and to share in an inspiring, supportive, and resilient creative community. In 2023, the Port Townsend Writers Conference will continue to be available via a hybrid platform with both in-person and online options. Those who are unable to journey to Port Townsend for in-person events are encouraged to join us for our hybrid workshops, lectures, and readings.

To encourage a diverse and inclusive conference with a wide range of writing experience, we seek to offer fellowships and tuition assistance for those who would otherwise not be able to afford it. To apply for tuition assistance, complete the scholarship application at the time of registration.

There are two ways to attend:

  • Attending our workshop in-person:
Morning Intensives in your select genre, drop-in afternoon workshops, craft lectures, open mics and all other Writers events held at Fort Worden in Port Townsend, WA; $950 or
    Afternoons only, in-person; $550.
There is a $500 deposit to register for in-person attendance, $200 of that deposit is non-refundable. Final payment is due May 15, 2023.

  • Our online track includes access to all afternoon workshops and recordings, craft lectures and readings; $250. Online participants pay in full to register for the program, $50 of which is non-refundable.

You must be 18 or older to attend this program.
Deposits are due at the time of registration. No refunds for tuition or housing will be offered for registrants who withdraw after May 15, 2023. Trip insurance is encouraged.

Important. Please read carefully. Every safety precaution is being made to ensure that we can meet together in-person at Fort Worden State Park in 2023. As such, if the Writers Conference is unable to operate in-person due to inclement weather, a sudden shift in pandemic risks or another unforeseen event, we are able to pivot the entire conference to an online-only platform and maintain the quality of the instruction. Dates, times and faculty for the conference will remain the same. If the conference shifts to online only, all housing fees will be refunded.
