Background
3D Printing is reshaping supply chains across industry sectors as companies seek to lower costs, secure manufacturing sovereignty and supply chain flexibility, and meet increased demand for custom products. In 2019 the industry was valued at more than $15 billion, a number that has steadily grown by 20-30% over the last five years.
Workshop Objectives
How will it work?
This course will take place over a single day in the summer of 2024. The workshop will include live demonstrations, expert talks, and tours across the advanced manufacturing labs at the CU Denver campus.
Who should sign up?
The target attendance is 25-30 people. The target attendees are early adopters and/or 3D printing champions at industrial end-users looking to get into AM. They might have a rudimentary knowledge of AM but are looking to expand their knowledge base.
Description
Embark on a comprehensive exploration of advanced manufacturing in our university's workshop. Led by experienced professors and industry experts, the course focuses on 3D printing, additive manufacturing design, and the digital thread. Participants integrate theoretical knowledge into practical skills, applying the university's curriculum to real-world scenarios. The workshop includes hands-on exercises and collaborative projects to enhance understanding of additive manufacturing technologies. Enriched by case studies from the medical, advanced design/simulation, and aerospace sectors, the workshop offers a balanced blend of theory and application in the field of advanced manufacturing.
Industry Networking
There will be ample time throughout the workshop to network with other participants, instructors, and students. Through these discussions and hands-on activities, we hope to develop long-lasting collaboration in the region.
Facility Tours
CU-Denver and its surrounding campuses are home to a number of cutting-edge 3D Printing researchers and labs. As part of this course, students will be given behind-the-scenes access to these sites and learn from industry experts the ins and outs of the advanced manufacturing space.
Work Placements
Several CU-Denver students will be available during the course to support and demonstrate their research and capabilities. This will be an excellent opportunity to find potential interns and new hires for your organization.
Future Workshops
This course will be the first of a series of workshops to be held over the coming months exploring critical facets of advanced manufacturing. Follow on courses will, delve into the intricacies of topology optimization, where participants unravel the secrets of optimizing structures for maximum efficiency. The next workshop will navigate the immersive realms of augmented reality, providing hands-on experiences in integrating this transformative technology into manufacturing processes. Finally, explore the transformative potential of machine learning and artificial intelligence in the manufacturing landscape in the fourth workshop. These workshops collectively illuminate the diverse and evolving aspects of modern manufacturing, fostering a comprehensive understanding of these pivotal domains.
