Course Summary

Course Summary

Creating a beautiful smile is far more than following aesthetic guidelines—it requires understanding which smile characteristics truly influence attractiveness and how to translate scientific evidence into everyday clinical practice. Through a series of interdisciplinary clinical cases, this lecture will demonstrate how every concept, from smile analysis to finishing details, directly impacts diagnosis, treatment planning, and treatment outcomes. Participants will leave with practical, evidence-based principles that can be immediately applied to their own patients.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this lecture, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the smile characteristics that truly influence dental aesthetics.
  • Apply evidence-based smile design principles to orthodontic and multidisciplinary treatment planning.
  • Determine how factors such as midlines, tooth replacement, smile arc, and incisal display affect the smiles that we create.
  • Refine smile finishing through improved incisal edge shaping and gingival architecture.

This course will be offered both asynchronously (via Zoom) and in-person at McGill Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences.
