NJDOT Traffic Control Coordinator Program (In-Person) - November 17-19, 2026 - 8:00am to 4:00pm

This is a 3-day program with exam.  Full attendance and division approval are required to receive credit and a TCC designation, provided you have met all the below listed prerequisites.

Course Description:
This 3-day in-person event with exam is designed for experienced highway work zone personnel who seek training in work zone traffic control. NJDOT and other agencies require a contractor to assign a supervisory-level employee with requisite onsite experience to act as the Traffic Control Coordinator (TCC) on roadway construction projects. Participants who successfully complete this course will be eligible to serve as a TCC and shall have the responsibility and authority to implement and maintain all traffic operations for the project.

The course covers standard work zone protection as specified in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Sessions on OSHA, NJDOT, and state police relationships and work zone traffic control liability issues are included. 

Upon successful completion of the 3-day course and submission of all prerequisite documentation, a digital TCC card will be issued to those given approval by their respective NJDOT division. Those who do not provide prerequisite documentation and/or who are not given division approval are only eligible for an attendance certificate with applicable PDH credit. 

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand MUTCD requirements in work zones
2. Distinguish differences between the MUTCD and DOT projects
3. Identify DOT standards and specifications requirements in required work zones
4. Learn New Jersey Turnpike Authority & OSHA requirements in work zones
5. Understand the role of State and Local Police in work zones

To successfully complete this course, you must:

• Attend all three days, from 8a-4p, which will contain several breaks
• Pass an online exam with a minimum proficiency score of 70% (applicable if seeking the TCC designation)
• Upload prerequisite documents upon registration or at a later date (applicable if seeking the TCC designation)
• Pay the course fee
• Complete an online survey at the conclusion of training

Prerequisites:
In order to obtain the TCC designation, you will need to gain division approval and provide copies of the following:

1. Proof of successful completion of a Work Zone Safety Awareness Program or Flagger Training Workshop. We require this be in the form of a certificate or letter of completion from the training sponsor.
2. A signed letter from a past and/or present employer stating you have 4000+ hours of field experience in highway work zones. We require this letter be on company letter head and signed by a supervisor.

**We ask that, if possible, you upload the prerequisite documents at the time of registration**

You may register for the program even if you do not have the prerequisites ready. However, to obtain the TCC card, you will have to upload the documents at a later time.

TCC designation cards will only be issued to those that meet the prerequisite and attendance standards.

If you do not meet the prerequisites, select the registration type identifying your NJDOT division and "Attendance Only." You will receive a certificate of attendance only, not the card required by NJDOT for the Traffic Control Coordinator designation.
