Thriving in Thin Air: Exploring Metabolic Adaptations of High Elevation Deer Mice

Workshop Description

How did highland deer mice evolve into extraordinary endurance athletes? Using The Science of an Extreme Animal Athlete video and The Biology of Oxygen Click & Learn, participants will investigate cellular respiration adaptations at high elevation. Educators will explore how these phenomenon-based resources support the science practice of asking questions and defining problems, and will leave with strategies to engage students in this challenging topic.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is for educators who teach any level of high school biology, including introductory and advanced courses (AP, IB, etc.) and undergraduate educators who teach at 2- or 4-year institutions.

Workshop Details

• The workshop will be hosted via Zoom meeting.
• Our workshops actively engage participants and often feature small group work in breakout rooms to build community, foster discussion, and model classroom practice.
• Workshop attendees will receive a certificate of participation and access to the free BioInteractive resources modeled in the workshop.
• We are unable to share recordings after the workshop.
