Course Overview and Instructions
This is a one day interprofessional workshop that covers the fundamentals of video debriefing. The learner will gain knowledge of the theory and models of video debriefing. Through practical experience within the workshop, learners will be able to develop the skills required to deliver effective video debriefing.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this workshop, the learner will be able to:
- Review and reflect on theories of adult learning in relation to video debriefing.
- Use video debriefing to assist learners cognitively process the simulation experience and relate to expected and unexpected learning objectives.
- Guide and coach learners in reflective practice (with the use of video) to explore and clarify the cognitive frames, and emotions that governed the trainee’s actions and behaviors.
- Address misconceptions held around video debriefing.
- Demonstrate and practice video-based debriefing.
Course Prerequisite
You have knowledge and previous experience with debriefing.
This activity is an Accredited Simulation Activity (Section 3) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of The Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, and approved by the SickKids Simulation Program (credit of 7 hours).
