COURSE OVERVIEW
Level Up Your Teaching! is a self-paced professional learning experience for middle and high school educators ready to energize their classrooms. Through practical strategies and guided application, participants learn how purposeful lesson design, engagement structures, formative assessment, and supportive routines work together to create focused, productive learning environments where students participate, take ownership, and grow. Flexible and classroom-ready, this course helps teachers strengthen both academic success and positive classroom culture—on a schedule that fits real life. Teach with purpose, engage with intention, while leveling up your impact!
Grade Level: 6-12 Teachers actively teaching in a classroom.
IMPORTANT DATES & INFORMATION
- Methods of Instruction - Course activities will include common readings and group discussions, collective learning processes, peer coaching/mentoring, and reflective practices.
- This course begins September 1, 2026.
- All coursework is due January 30, 2027.
- Registration closes November 15, 2026.

After retiring following a 31-year career in public education, Jan continues to make a meaningful impact in schools through her work with educators and districts. Jan began her teaching career in Southern California as a fifth-grade teacher. When her students transitioned to middle school, Jan followed them and quickly discovered a passion for working with adolescents. Over the next seven years, Jan taught English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science to sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade students.
A graduate of the Anchorage School District, Jan once insisted she would never return to Alaska. However, Jan was eventually drawn back to Anchorage, where Jan taught seventh- and eighth-grade science and health before concluding her public education career as a PreK–12 Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Coordinator.
In retirement, Jan remains deeply committed to supporting educators and improving student outcomes. Jan leverages her expertise in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and classroom management to provide strategic guidance and practical, evidence-based strategies that educators can implement immediately. Jan's work focuses on empowering teachers and school staff to create inclusive, supportive learning environments where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
