Discover the Rich History and Culture of Buena Vista!

Join us in Buena Vista on Saturday, June 13th & Sunday June, 14th (optional early check in on Friday, June 12th!) for an engaging exploration of a region in Colorado shaped by ranching, outdoor recreation, and transportation. CPI, alongside our local partners, has curated an exciting weekend for Saving Places® On the Road.
This immersive, two-day event brings together local leaders, preservation professionals, and curious visitors for hands-on training, behind-the-scenes tours, and exclusive access to preservation projects that highlight the unique history and character of each host community. In addition to educational sessions and site visits, the event features a lively Taste Of celebration—an evening dedicated to showcasing the area’s local music, cuisine, artisans, and cultural traditions. With an average attendance of 75 to 150 participants, Saving Places On the Road offers a unique opportunity for communities to share their preservation successes, explore region-specific challenges, and foster meaningful connections with a statewide network of advocates.
In 2026 the Buena Vista Historic Preservation Commission will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its establishment. Over the past decade, the dedicated volunteers on the Commission have designated cherished places as local landmarks, developed architectural design guidelines for historic East Main Street, and sponsored coloring contests for Historic Preservation Month. We are excited to celebrate 10 years with them this year!
Saving Places®On the Road is open to all. Lunch and Taste of Buena Vista on Saturday are included in the registration price.

We Are Colorado Preservation, Inc.
Since 1984, Colorado Preservation, Inc. (CPI) has diligently worked to make a difference in communities throughout the state. Energized around a central theme of “building a future with historic places,” CPI was founded by visionary leaders who identified a need for a statewide nonprofit organization structured around preserving, protecting, and promoting Colorado’s historic places. Historic preservation is much more than keeping “old” buildings standing; preservation is about creating a sense of place, enhancing communities, and revitalizing economies. Our organization promotes the critical connection between people and place.
CPI works to ensure historic places across Colorado are protected and will be preserved for future generations. CPI advances its mission by partnering with property owners, non-profit organizations, educators, and local governments through its signature initiatives Colorado’s Most Endangered Places Program (EPP), its annual Saving Places® Conference, and its Dana Crawford & State Honor Awards.
Saving Places® On the Road is one of the many ways CPI advances historic preservation by bringing together individuals, organizations, communities, and projects from across the nation to discuss the latest in preservation, looking at common concerns and challenges while celebrating our collective accomplishments. For over 25 years, CPI has provided essential training and networking opportunities to individuals like YOU working to protect our state’s heritage.
