Course Information
This interactive 3-day module is designed with particular emphasis on restorative procedures relevant to dental implant therapy and for clinicians looking to expand their dental implant treatment to a more advanced level including multi-unit cases and in the aesthetic zone. The participants should already have a comprehensive understanding of dental implant fundamentals including patient assessment and risk assessment.
This module will begin with how to objectively measure the dental implant has achieved adequate osseointegration to ensure it can receive the occlusal load anticipated. You will be shown a detailed prescription on fabrication of a chair side provisional crown to best develop the soft tissue profile in the aesthetic zone which is ever more important to meet patient’s expectation.
We will cover 3 various impression taking techniques including: open tray, closed tray, splinted impressions and how to take an impression with a customised impression coping. We will discuss all implant prosthesis design options including screw retained (straight, angulated and cross-pin), cement retained, and when each option is required. The participants will gain understanding of fundamental selection criteria for implant componentry and importance of genuine components.
How to best communicate with the dental laboratory to improve clinical outcome will be covered. You will be updated on the various dental ceramics available and how to choose the right ceramic or implant abutment for the right case. The participants will learn the key principle of implant occlusion and how to control such to reduce risk of mechanical overloading. And finally, how each type of implant prosthesis is assessed extra-orally then delivered intra-orally is covered in detail.
This module includes a comprehensive hands-on component including; taking splinted multi-unit implant impression, taking closed tray impressions for the difficult single implant posterior cases, constructing chair-side provisional crown in the aesthetic zone and constructing customised impression coping in the aesthetic zone.

Learning objectives
- Understand how to confirm adequate implant osseointegration.
- Develop soft tissue profile in the aesthetic zone using a provisional crown.
- Understand how to take an implant impression predictably using an open and closed tray techniques.
- Understand why splinting the impression copings rigidly is so important for multi-unit cases.
- Understand the various abutments and how to select them.
- Understand the various implant prosthesis designs for single and multi-unit cases.
- Understand the importance of effective communication with the laboratory to achieve a consistent outcome.
- Understand the various dental ceramics and how to choose the right ceramic for the right case.
- Understand how to verify the prosthesis on the master cast and how to deliver screw-retain prosthesis.
- Understand long-term maintenance protocols and complications associated with dental implants.
Hands-on / Practical
(Bring: dental loupes)
- Predictably take a routine implant impression for single unit cases.
- Predictably take a splinted implant impression for multi-unit cases.
- Take closed tray impressions for the posterior single implants with difficult access.
- Construct a chair-side provisional implant crown in the aesthetic zone to develop soft tissue profile.
- Construct a customised impression coping to capture the developed soft tissue profile.
