Take Care of You, Take On Challenging Behaviors

Monday, October 12, 2026, from 1-4 p.m. (ET)

Imagine an early childhood classroom that feels joyful and engaging, where children are learning, laughing, and loved. This kind of classroom is possible, but only when the adults in charge feel respected, rested, and ready to take on the demands of early childhood education. Tragically, too many classrooms are described as chaotic, overwhelming, and even unsafe, leading to high levels of staff turnover and children who are unprepared to succeed in school and in life.

This three-hour virtual training will tackle two issues that are essential for creating high-quality classrooms where both children and adults thrive. Adults are first introduced to resilience, learning how their own well-being can be strengthened through a process of self-reflection and an intentional decision to make small changes in their daily routine. Participants are then introduced to FLIP IT, a simple four-step process that reduces children’s use of challenging behaviors. The FLIP IT mnemonic stands for Feelings, Limits, Inquiries, and Prompts. This four-step process is used to strengthen children’s self-regulation skills and simultaneously helps adults stay regulated too.

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify the four protective factors that are essential for strengthening adult resilience
  • Explore how these protective factors can contribute to feeling tired and stressed as well as feeling valued and supported
  • Identify the prerequisites for FLIP IT success
  • Explain each of the four FLIP IT steps and how this strategy works to teach children skills to strengthen self-regulation, healthy relationships, and problem solving
  • Apply the four FLIP IT steps in a variety of challenging moments with young children
