Prerequisite

Mastercam Mill Essentials class, and knowledge of CNC mill setup and operation.

This is an intense three-day application class focused on evaluating and selecting components across the seven key areas of high efficiency milling: CNC machine, workpiece material, cutting tools, tool holding, coolant, work holding, and programming methods.

Students will gain foundational knowledge and engage in hands-on interactions with all seven areas to build their ability to identify and create efficient milling processes.

The outcome of this course is for the students to analyze the entire milling workflow, select appropriate components, and program an efficient CNC milling process to increase productivity across various CNC milling machines.

  • Identify material characteristics and material groups
  • Select end mills and calculate parameters for specific material groups and programming methods
  • Understand tool holder characteristics and apply the best applications to specific machine, material, and programming setups.
  • Evaluate coolant factors, chip evacuation methods, applications, and maintenance
  • Apply key setup principles and select appropriate work holding methods for different part features, materials, and programming methods
  • Identify main characteristics of CNC machines and apply specific tooling and dynamic programming methods
  • Analyze and identify tool failures, select end mills with respective cutting data to match part material and CNC machine capabilities.
  • Program multiple parts with different geometry using Mastercam Dynamic Motion
  • Calculate and analyze productivity outcome of Dynamic Motion programming across various toolpath methods
  • Complete a final project
  • Demo parts on CNC machines
