Seminar Description:

This course is designed for licensed healthcare providers such as physical therapists, athletic trainers, nurses, and physicians who want specialized training in the acute management of injury and illness specifically geared to sideline venue coverage. 

Course participants will build core skills in the following content areas: primary and secondary assessment, ethics and legal review, dermatology & disease transmission, bleeding and wound management, medical and traumatic emergencies, and fracture and dislocation management. Additional enrichment modules include concussion evaluation/management, and taping techniques for upper and lower extremity injuries.

The learning objectives will be accomplished using entirely in-person lecture and lab activities.

This course is approved by the ABPTS Sports Specialty Council as one of the Acute Management of Injury and Illness Courses required for Initial Certification, Recertification, and Maintenance (see listing in Pathway 1).

This course is mandatory for:   

  • ABPTS Certified Sports Physical Therapy Specialists who wish to re-credential
  • Applicants entering a Sports Residency
  • Healthcare professionals who would like to safely perform on-field coverage
