Summary
United States’ floating solar sector has been growing rapidly driven by the massive potential of these projects and increasing land and water conservation issues. Latest NREL data shows that the nation has a potential to install a massive 861 to 1,042 GW dc of floating solar capacity on federally owned and regulated reservoirs. This represents roughly half of the solar capacity required in the United States for decarbonizing its grid.
Although the size and scale of the projects is smaller when compared to the markets in Asia and Europe, the floating solar market in the United States is equally cost-competitive with mature technology and specialized industry players catering to the segment. Synergies with hydro power, thermal power, offshore wind, and other projects are further helping to build a strong case for floating solar. While immense opportunity exists, federal and state grants as well as clear policy support can help in further boosting the growth of this untapped floating solar sector.
In this context, REGlobal is organizing its 2nd Annual Conference on Floating Solar in US on July 9, 2025 at Jay Conference Center Midtown East, New York. The mission of this one-day conference is to provide a platform to discuss the potential and benefits of floating solar, policy and regulatory environment, technology trends, developers’ plans and experiences, permitting and grid considerations, construction and O&M best practices, financing landscape, and outlook for the floating solar sector in US.
The conference will bring together policymakers and regulators, developers, utilities, technology providers, manufacturers, consultants, contractors and service providers, investors, grid operators, permitting bodies and industry experts to deliberate on the key opportunities and the way forward for the country’s floating solar market.
