Summary
Floating solar is increasingly becoming popular across the globe and is now being deployed both inland and offshore. The United States has a tremendous untapped potential for floating solar installations and the country is now finally witnessing an increasing uptake of these projects. A study by NREL found that floating solar projects over the country’s 25,000 man-made reservoirs could generate 10 per cent of its annual national electricity. Further, even without any major new policy developments, the US floating solar market industry can cross 300 GW by 2030.
Floating solar not only makes land available for other important activities but also has synergies with other power projects, especially for optimum utilisation of transmission infrastructure. Further, short gestation timelines, increasing cost-competitiveness and maturing technology make the case stronger for this technology. Encouraging provisions including those of the Inflation Reduction Act and newer initiatives like the POWER Our Reservoirs Act (bill) can significantly help in boosting growth in this space.
In this context, REGlobal is organizing a conference on Floating Solar in US on July 23, 2024 in New York City. The mission of the conference is to highlight potential, growth opportunities, policy initiatives, developers’ plans, permitting and grid concerns, technology trends, execution and O&M solutions, financing landscape and outlook for the floating solar sector in US.
The one-day event will provide a platform to discuss the opportunities in the country’s largely untapped floating solar market. The conference will bring together policymakers, regulators, solar power developers, utilities, technology providers, manufacturers, grid operators, permitting bodies and industry experts to present their perspectives on advancing the region’s floating solar market.
