Effective Strategies for Feedback and Empathy

Developed by Dr. Brittnie Peck, Associate Professor of Communication, UW-Superior

This interactive, two-day workshop is designed to equip leaders, managers, and team members with the practical skills to deliver and receive feedback that combines empathy and care with courage and honesty. Centering on the practical application of rigorous social science research in interpersonal and organizational communication, group dynamics, emotional intelligence, empathy, resilience, and group cohesion, this program will show participants how to move beyond being “nice” and conflict avoidance, toward collaborative feedback conversations that build trust, drive performance, and strengthen relationships.

This workshop will include a blend of mini-lectures, self-assessments, small-group discussions, real-time role-playing, and reflective exercises, aimed at helping you develop habits for soliciting, giving, and receiving guidance that respects the personhood of every colleague while challenging them to grow. The format of this workshop is highly experiential and tailored to professional environments, and emphasizes how leading with courage reduces defensiveness, boosts engagement, and fosters resilient teams. Participants will come away from this workshop with personalized action plans, scripting tools, and confidence to implement these practices in one-on-ones, team meetings, performance conversations and everyday interactions.
