Ready to take the next step in your professional development? We've just launched an exciting partnership with Upper Iowa University to bring back Graduate Credit for ISEA Academy courses!

This collaboration provides two major wins for you:

  1. More Affordable: We've successfully negotiated a lower cost per Graduate credit hour! Invest in your education without breaking the bank. (The new rate is in the "Fees" section at the top of the page.)
  2. A Head Start on Your Degree: A select group of your ISEA Academy courses can now count as elective credit in an Upper Iowa University graduate program. Get credit for the professional learning you're already doing! (Don't forget to check with your program advisor for all the details!)

Important Note for Graduate Credit: To be eligible to receive Graduate credit through Upper Iowa University, you must possess a bachelor's degree from an institution that its regional accreditation association recognizes.

Get ready to dive in! This is your opportunity to enroll in a self-paced, one-credit, four-week course that is entirely on your schedule!

Once your registration is processed, look for an email from your instructor packed with everything you need to know. As soon as you get those instructions, you're ready to begin!

Remember, you have the entire 4 weeks to complete all your assignments, discussions, and the final project. It's flexible, but the clock is ticking!

Course Description:

"My conversations with Dr. Bruce Perry and the thousands of people who were brave enough to share their stories with me on The Oprah Winfrey Show have taught me that the effects of my treatment by those who were supposed to care for me weren’t strictly emotional. There was also a biological response. Through my work with Dr. Perry, my eyes have been opened to the fact that although I experienced abuse and trauma as a child, my brain found ways to adapt.

This is where hope lives for all of us in the unique adaptability of our miraculous brains. As Dr. Perry explains in this book, understanding how the brain reacts to stress or early trauma helps clarify how what has happened to us in the past shapes who we are, how we behave, and why we do the things we do.

Through this lens, we can build a renewed sense of personal self-worth and ultimately recalibrate our responses to circumstances, situations, and relationships. It is, in other words, the key to reshaping our very lives.” - Oprah Winfrey

Have you ever asked yourself, WHY is this student acting out? WHY are they back from the office already? WHAT am I doing wrong? WHAT are we doing wrong? WHAT is wrong with them? Join me for this virtual book study to build your knowledge about toxic stress and the biological response it has on a young brain. You have the power as an educator to be trauma informed and help children succeed. Start here to learn how to shift your mindset on your approach to helping students in your classroom who have experienced toxic stress while understanding why they have trouble regulating their emotions. Educators are change agents. Start the conversation at your school on how to ask, WHAT happened to them?

Required Material:
What Happened to You? Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing,(2021) By Oprah Winfrey and Bruce D. Perry

The book can be purchased on Amazon
