Meet the Interim John Leone Dean of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences

John Mauro is the Interim Dean of Penn State's College of Earth and Mineral Sciences and a professor of Materials Science and Engineering. Before joining Penn State in 2017, he spent 18 years at Corning Incorporated, where he co-invented three generations of Corning® Gorilla Glass®. He is also the inventor of LionGlass™, an innovative and more sustainable family of glass materials. Dean Mauro earned his bachelor's degree and Ph.D. in glass science from Alfred University and is committed to advancing EMS's mission of transformative education, research, and societal impact.
