Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Fall 2026
Join us for our virtual MBSR program this Fall 2026
Orientation is Wednesday, September 23, 5 – 6:30 p.m. CDT
Followed by eight weekly classes plus one all-day session
The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course teaches participants about mindfulness; what it is, how it can help and how to incorporate more of it into your life. In addition, the course also includes practicing many different forms of mindfulness, from meditation, to mindful eating, to gentle stretching, to awareness of the breath and more.
MBSR provides over 30 hours of teacher-lead instruction and guided practices, including one all-day Saturday session, large and small group discussions and micro-credentialing. This course has been approved by the MN Board of Social Work for License Renewal for 23.5 hours of Continuing Education activity clock hours.
Because this course is fairly intensive (daily home practice in addition to attending each weekly class online), we recommend that if interested, it's best for participants to have the ability to attend all the below dates in order to receive the most benefits out of the course!
MBSR Benefits:
- Increase your ability to stay calm and think clearly: Paying attention to our thoughts and sensations without passing judgment on them allows the mind to focus on the present moment with an attitude of acceptance.
- Improve your ability to cope more effectively with stressful situations: Being able to step back from your thoughts helps you gain perspective, choose your thoughts, words and actions more deliberately, giving you the ability to respond instead of react
- Increase your self-awareness: Growing your self-awareness capabilities helps you develop the ability to monitor and understand emotions as they arise. Awareness and understanding of your feelings is key.
- Improve your energy and enthusiasm for life: Having appreciation for the things that are going well and developing a daily gratitude practice helps prevent negativity and increases our capacity for happiness.
- Improved self-esteem and self-confidence: Being attuned to your thoughts and emotions helps you gain insight into patterns that affect your self-esteem. This allows you to challenge negative beliefs and replace them with empowering ones.
This highly successful 8-week program was established by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. The Pruitt Center follows the same curriculum.
