Teachers consistently name rigor among the most disliked terms in education. They may struggle with how to define it in observable and actionable ways. Many will offer that they “know it when they see it,” yet have trouble explaining it in ways that lead to improved rigor and maintaining high expectations in their classrooms. This workshop pulls back the veil on rigor as we explore misconceptions and reclaim and redefine the term as a tool for professional growth and student learning. Following the RIGOR model, together we will explore Relationships, Instruction, Goals, Organization, and Relevance. Participants will identify rigor components already in their teaching repertoire, while learning new strategies to bolster their teaching practice and foster collective efficacy.
