Participant Statement of Purpose

The participant's transcript should include high school grades through Fall 2025. This does not need to be an official transcript and can even be a collection of high school report cards.

The portfolio review committee will consider the participant's transcript as a whole. Dual Enrollment, AP, IB, and honors courses will be considered. Middle school grades will not be considered.

The Participant Statement of Purpose is a short essay, no more than 300 words, about why the participant wants to attend SCAD Summer Seminars and how attending the program will aid the participant in their ultimate artistic and creative career goals.

The participant can also express if they have ever faced challenging social, educational, cultural, or other life circumstances that have influenced the way they approach their art and education. In addition, participants can use this essay to express financial need for consideration

Portfolio

Achievement Profile

The portfolio should consist of three examples of completed artwork that best represent the participant as an artist. This should be the participant's best work and does not need to be a cohesive portfolio.

Participants should also take presentation into account when photographing or scanning their artwork. Misplaced shadows or poor cropping will take away from the quality of the work.

Pieces in 3-D should have multiple views of the artwork and be labeled accordingly (front, back, side, above, etc). Direct website links for film and animated pieces may be included. Please ensure you test the links before submission.

Mailed physical artwork is not accepted and will not be returned. SCAD cannot accept portfolios sent via post mail.

An achievement profile, or list of achievements, can include extracurricular activities, awards, community service, volunteer work, leadership positions, work experience, and other relevant accomplishments.

This can be presented as either a bulleted list or in a resume format.

We encourage participants to indicate how long they have been involved in each organization or when they received the award.

Ex: National Honor Society, Young Life, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Scholastic Art & Writing awards, International Baccalaureate program, etc.
