Course Summary
Course Description:
This workshop aims to provide general dentists with the skills and knowledge to provide predictable and high-quality care for the pediatric patient. Through comprehensive specialist-led lectures, combined with extensive hands-on experience, participants will leave the course feeling more comfortable, competent and confident in their pediatric dentistry skills.
Course Objectives and Content:
1. Diagnosis & Treatment Planning
• Objective 1.1: Establish diagnosis and treatment plans based on clinical and radiographic evaluation.
• Objective 1.2: Modify treatment plans based on patient factors and parent expectations.
• Objective 1.3: Determine which pediatric patients and treatment plans are appropriate for a general dentist and which require referral to a pediatric dentist.
2. Preventive Dentistry
• Objective 2.1: Understand available techniques, indications, and effectiveness of preventive therapies in pediatric dentistry.
• Objective 2.2: Conduct thorough discussions with parents and families about anticipatory guidance, oral hygiene, and the role of diet in prevention.
3. Restorative Pediatric Dentistry
• Objective 3.1: Understand indications, contraindications, and prognostic factors involved in class II restorations, pulpotomies, and stainless steel crowns of primary teeth.
• Objective 3.2: Perform class II restorations, pulpotomies, and stainless steel crowns for primary teeth.
• Objective 3.3: Troubleshoot class II restorations, pulpotomies, and stainless steel crowns for primary teeth.

For all ODQ member dentists, the continuing education policy states that each hour of theory training provides 1 CE unit, and each hour of hands-on training provides 2 CE units. For dental hygienists who are members of the OHDQ and all ADA CERP member dentists, the continuing education policy operates on the basis of hours of educational activity, whether theoretical or practical.
