Concrete is everywhere — we walk on it, drive on it, and work with it — and it is vital to building and maintaining the bridges and roadways that make up our transportation systems. But due to its popularity and many uses, concrete also contributes approximately 8% of the world’s CO2 emissions despite having a relatively low carbon intensity compared to other building materials.
Dr. Matthew P. Adams and Dr. Matthew Bandelt, University Transportation Center partners from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, have been researching this area and investigating innovative applications for sustainable concrete materials and technologies. In this free seminar, they will discuss their work to date studying the uses and benefits of recycled concrete as a replacement for natural aggregate, sustainable rapid-repair cements for infrastructure maintenance, understanding the durability of low-carbon concrete mixtures, and more.
Key Takeaways:
- Discuss the latest innovations in sustainable concrete materials and technology
- Highlight the potential applications and uses of sustainable concrete
- Review key next steps in advancing sustainable concrete research and practice
Speakers: Dr. Matthew P. Adams and Dr. Matthew Bandelt, Assistant Professors of Civil & Environmental Engineering at NJIT and University Transportation Center (UTC) partners.
