Description: The StateWide Assistive Technology Augmentative & Alternative Communication (SWAAAC) Program is funded by the Colorado Department of Education to support providers of assistive technology services in Colorado Public Schools. Anyone who works with students with disabilities in a K-12 Colorado Public School may benefit from learning about the resources that SWAAAC offers, including:

  • Free professional development opportunities
  • An assistive technology loan library with over 2,400 items
  • Consultation and technical assistance

Join us for this webinar to learn how make the most of these resources!

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will understand the breadth of resources available through SWAAAC and how to access them. 

2. Participants will navigate to the SWAAAC Events webpage and identify two upcoming professional development opportunities. 

3. Participants will access the SWAAAC Loan Library online catalog to browse assistive technology available for loan and select at least one digital resource to request or download. 

4. Participants will know how to contact their local Team Coordinator and/or the SWAAAC Central Office staff for support.

Target Audience: Colorado Public School Assistive Technology Specialists, Special Educators, Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Reading Specialists, Teachers for the Visually Impaired, Special Education Paraprofessionals, Administrators, and Parents.

A Certificate of Attendance will be provided upon completion of the webinar feedback survey, and a recording of the webinar will be sent to all registrants. To see our full schedule of webinars and events, please visit the SWAAAC Events Webpage.

This webinar is free, but registration is required and the number of participants is limited. Please register by September 1st.

Meet the Speakers

Emily Counts headshot

Christina Perkins, MA, CCC-SLP/L, is a Senior Research Instructor and AT Specialist at the Center for Innovative Design and Engineering (CIDE) and has worked as the coordinator for the Colorado Department of Education's StateWide Assistive Technology Augmentative Alternative Communication (SWAAAC) program for the past 20 years. In addition, she provides AAC and Educational Assistive Technology services and technical assistance through a variety of clinical and community-based programs.

Claire Simpson, MS, OTR/L, is a Research Instructor at the Center for Innovative Design and Engineering (CIDE). She has a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from Colorado State University and has worked as an occupational therapist in pediatric and adult settings. Claire is passionate about the role of technology in supporting people of all ages to participate in valued daily activities. In her current role, she supports the SWAAAC program, a partnership between CIDE and the Colorado Department of Education. Claire has presented at local and statewide conferences and has published research in the field of assistive technology.
