Learning Objectives
This course will analyze how major uncertainties and risk levels in industrial operations can be reduced and managed at tolerable levels. A systematic method is needed to provide the basis for modeling and controlling risk within acceptable ranges. This needed approach is provided by Risk Analysis.
By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Describe how to perform risk analysis by identifying, characterizing, reducing, managing, and informing others about the nature and magnitude of uncertainty ranges of potentially damaging events.
- describe and utilize the various tools for risk analysis that include probability models and methods to define uncertain events involving significant dependencies and require use of statistics, traditional and Bayesian methods to evaluate data and develop cost effective risk-based strategies.
- articulate the fundamentals of Socio-Technical System Risk Analysis and Risk-informed Decision-Making Under Uncertainty with an emphasis on engineering applications.
