The Social Development Strategy (SDS) is an approach that builds strengths in youth and communities by encouraging positive connections and supportive interactions to reduce unhealthy behaviors.

Who Should Attend
This live, virtual training series is designed to prepare any youth-serving agencies/individual to use the Social Development Strategy (SDS) in their work.  

For coalitions implementing Communities That Care (CTC), it is especially useful for Youth Involvement and Community Board Maintenance Work Group members. 

Training Information
This workshop is interactive and includes presentations, breakout room conversations, and large group discussions. To participate fully, trainees are required to access to the internet via a computer/laptop (not a mobile device or tablet) with a camera and microphone. Participants must complete Day 1 prior to attending Day 2.

Day 1

  • Identify the key components of the SDS
  • Teach the SDS using a story
  • Choose a story that illustrates the SDS for your community

Day 2

  • Learn about the research behind the theory
  • Draft action plans to put SDS into practice in your community
