Mobile homeowners owned their homes but leased the land underneath, which is complicating rebuild timelines. Additionally, mobile homeowners are at risk of facing higher land rent which can affect their ability to return home, greatly impacting their ability to rebuild. This session will support mobile homeowners with understanding their rights in the rebuilding process and their options to rebuild. This session will help renters understand their options for returning to their community and their legal rights, including those related to habitability, repairs, and reporting landlord neglect. It will also outline state and local emergency tenant protections and explain how to access legal aid services. Finally, the session will highlight opportunities for renters to participate in decision-making through advocacy, potential right to return policies, and by working with affordable housing providers such as community land trusts (CLTs).
