Session Summary

We’re all moving at the speed of light, bombarded with data, deadlines, and now AI tools promising to do it faster. That speed creates real ethical risks: sometimes it’s bad actors using AI as an accelerant for fraud; sometimes it’s well-intentioned professionals quietly cutting corners because skimming and deferring to a bot is just easier. This session unpacks both sides of that coin, then turns to what’s required of all of us in response from leading with empathy for the pressures driving misconduct, to governing AI agents that have no conscience of their own. Grounded in the fraud triangle and recognized ethics standards for auditing and anti-fraud professionals, this is a practical, current look at ethics for internal auditors, fraud examiners, and other risk and compliance professionals operating in an AI-accelerated world.

Learning Objectives: By the end of this session, attendees will be able to:

  • Recognize how information overload and fast-paced environments create unintentional ethical blind spots and opportunities for misconduct.
  • Examine how AI is simultaneously accelerating fraud by bad actors and increasing the risk of complacency-driven ethical lapses among well-intentioned professionals.
  • Apply the fraud triangle and empathetic leadership practices to identify and address the pressures that drive people toward unethical shortcuts.
  • Evaluate the organization’s responsibility for ethical oversight and governance of AI systems, bots, and agents that cannot exercise human judgement.
