Globus is a secure, reliable platform for research data management that helps organisations move, share, and manage data across institutional, cloud, and high performance computing (HPC) environments. It is widely used by universities, research facilities, and scientific collaborations to simplify the transfer of large datasets and provide seamless access to distributed storage systems.

This workshop is designed for system administrators and technical support staff who are responsible for research computing, storage, and data services. Drawing on the GlobusWorld Tour programme and enhanced with content tailored for UK research organisations, the course provides both a practical introduction to Globus and guidance on deploying and supporting Globus services within your institution.

By attending, participants will learn how to:

  • Understand the core capabilities of the Globus platform and how it supports research data management.
  • Deploy and configure Globus endpoints on HPC systems, storage platforms, and other multi-user services using Globus Connect Server.
  • Enable secure, high-performance data transfers and data sharing for researchers and collaborators.
  • Monitor and manage Globus services, including performance tuning and user activity monitoring.
  • Explore common research data management use cases and best practices for supporting users.
  • Automate routine data workflows using the Globus command-line tools and automation capabilities.
  • Understand the Globus platform architecture, APIs, and authentication services, enabling integration with local services and applications.
  • Discuss UK-specific deployment considerations, research infrastructure integrations, and operational practices with peers and experts.

The workshop will combine presentations, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, providing attendees with the knowledge and confidence to deploy, administer, and support Globus services within their institute.

Registration for the event is free. As places are limited, registrations will be reviewed and approved by our administration team to ensure we can accommodate all attendees.
