Teaching resilience: Can we? Should we?
21 October 2026
14:00-15:00 BST
Resilience is often considered a desired quality among dancers, representing their ability to 'bounce back' from rejection or failure. But in reality, resilience is more complex! In this session delivered by Dr Imogen Aujla, an award-winning dance psychology specialist, we will define resilience as it relates to both dancers' personal qualities and the learning environments that teachers create. Strategies for building resilience will be introduced, and we will debate the extent to which teachers should provide challenges aimed at enhancing resilience - and the ethical implications of doing so.
