Using FLIP IT with Young Children: Addressing Behavior Concerns and Supporting Social-Emotional Development
Thursday, March 11, 2027, from 1-4 p.m. (ET)
We all want young children to grow up socially and emotionally healthy. We also know that on their journey of learning about their feelings and how to relate to others, young children often behave in ways that challenge us. What effective strategies are out there to help address behavior concerns and support young children’s social-emotional development? Our go-to strategy is FLIP IT.
This three-hour virtual training will discuss the FLIP IT strategy, a four-step process for addressing behavior concerns for young children (3-8 years old). The four steps are embodied in the FLIP mnemonic, which stands for Feelings, Limits, Inquiries, and Prompts. The FLIP IT strategy can help reduce behavior concerns while also supporting young children’s social-emotional development. Come and learn how to implement this strategy and its four simple steps for helping young children learn about their feelings, gain self-control, and reduce behavior concerns.
Participants will be able to:
- Identify the prerequisites for FLIP IT success
- Explain how each of the four FLIP IT steps supports regulation, relationships, and healthy coping
- Apply the four FLIP IT steps in a variety of challenging moments with young children
All participants will receive a FLIP IT Resource Kit!
