Registration is now open for you and your team for the USHCA Spring 2020 Academy! We are excited to see everyone in Austin, Texas in April and have included important details for you below. We are especially excited to have a number of state leaders join this Academy to learn of district challenges and ways they can help. Please be sure to forward this registration link on to those who will be attending with you.
Dates &Timing:
Optional Pre-Sessions: Beginning at 3 PM on Tuesday, April 21
Orientation for New Participants, New District teams and New State Leaders (3:00-4:30 PM)
The Human Resources Partner Role OR The State’s Role in Supporting Human Capital Work (4:30-5:30 PM)
Formal Program Begins: 5:30 PM on Tuesday, April 21 with a reception and dinner
Program Concludes: Friday, April 24, at 12:00 PM
What’s Included:
All meals with the exception of Wednesday evening, April 22 – a chance for participants to explore the restaurant scene in Austin (we can provide recommendations for restaurants upon request)
All materials, tools, and curriculum
Hotel room costs for three nights – once you register, USHCA will make all your hotel reservations
Support throughout the Academy from the USHCA team
Travel:
We highly recommend that you book flights that allow you to arrive by 3:00 PM on Tuesday and depart after 2:00 PM on Friday. We always have engaging, meaningful content on the final day – you won't want to miss it! The nearest airport is the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), which is a short taxi or Uber/Lyft ride from the hotel. Additional transportation options are also available. As a reminder, USHCA does not cover transportation costs.

At this Academy, we will focus on Retaining a High-Quality, Diverse Teacher Workforce
1. What is working well in our district related to teacher retention and what are the opportunities for improvement and focus?
2. What is HR’s short and long- term approach to teacher retention, with a focus on diversity and equity?
3. What does a “great career” look like for a teacher in our district? What are the key steps HR can implement to ensure teachers have great careers in our district?
4. How can HR work in partnership with principals and principal supervisors to retain great teachers in the district?
5. How can the State best support retention of teachers, particularly in high-need schools and districts?
Who Should Attend:
To gain the most from the Academy sessions, we recommend the following individuals attend from a district:
Chief of Human Resources/Human Capital/Talent
Head of Staffing or Human Resources Partner Team
Key team member responsible for teacher leadership or career management
One Principal Supervisor
Note: Additional participants beyond four are welcome at a cost of $6,250 per participant. States should consider sending a person who is responsible for educator development, someone who is deeply connected with Districts, or someone who is focused on recruiting and retaining educators in the state.
Registration:
Please register no later than March 20th to ensure you and your team will have rooms at the hotel. We will do everything to secure hotel rooms after that date but may not be able to guarantee rooms for those who register after March 20th .
