Unlock new efficiencies in solar site management and the potential of agrivoltaics by learning how to safely and effectively perform operations and maintenance on livestock-integrated solar sites. This one-day training equips solar professionals with essential skills for navigating grazed solar sites, including working with electric fencing, guardian animals, and sheep-based vegetation management. Through solution-based procedures and expert-led instruction, the training is designed to break down operational barriers, empower solar professionals to confidently manage day-to-day O&M on sites with grazing sheep, and build communication strategies and tools for seamless collaboration between solar operators and grazing professionals.

Topics Include:

Fenced In: How to navigate the electric fencing maze preventing you from doing your job
Negotiating Obstacles & Landmines: Gates, equipment, guard dogs, and what you’ll step in
Mowers with Minds of Their Own: The imperfect perfection of vegetation management with sheep
The Sheep Advantage: Understanding sheep production and the value they add on your site
Electrifying Communications: Practical tools and strategies for reporting and supporting grazing operations

Prerequisites: Basic solar PV knowledge or experience is strongly recommended for this course.

Students will be able to:

Identify hazards and best practices for safely working around electric fencing, gates, guardian animals, and sheep.
Understand the function and significance of gate management, site security, and access considerations.
Evaluate the ecological and operational benefits of integrating sheep on a solar site for vegetation control.
Build communication strategies and tools to support collaboration between site owners, solar operations and maintenance professionals and grazing teams.

Registering Multiple People

If you are registering multiple people from the same company, complete the information for the first person, and then on the Registration Summary page, click on "Add Group Member" to start the process for the next person. When you are finished adding individuals, click next on the Registration Summary page and you will be able to pay for the group in one transaction.

Payment Information

We accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express to pay registration fees. If you need to pay by check, purchase order, IDT, grant or scholarship, please contact the training team at cleanenergy@ncsu.edu and we will be happy to assist you.

Payment Plan

Credit card payments may be made in 3-5 installments. At the end of the registration process, you may select to pay by installment payments. A member of the training team will contact you with additional instructions on how to set up your installment payments. The installment payments will be automatically drafted once a month. Please note that full payment of the course must be received before the start of the course.

Cancellation and Refund Policies

Cancellation requests should be sent to CleanEnergy@ncsu.edu for processing. Cancellations:

32+ days before the course, receive a full refund minus a $25 processing fee
15-31 days before the course, receive a 50% refund
8-14 days before the course, receive a 25% refund
0-7 days before the course are ineligible for a refund

Attendee substitutions from within the same company may be made at any time before the start of the course at no cost. Please send an email to CleanEnergy@ncsu.edu with the name of the current registrant and the name and email address of the new registrant to begin the substitution process.
