The pursuit of high-performance cosmetic ingredients from renewable sources is entering a decisive new era, defined by a strategic transition from traditional herbal extraction to "biotech beauty". This evolution is driven by an intensifying global demand for ingredients that are not only safe and sustainable but also capable of delivering science-based treatment effectiveness.
This symposium explores the rapid advancement of technology platforms—including precision fermentation, enzyme-engineered synthesis, and plant stem cells—which enable the selective recovery of complex, bio-identical molecules such as retinol, hyaluronic acid, squalene, myo-inositol, γ–polyglutamic acid, ω-poly(lysine), sophorolipids, rhamnolipids, recombinant collagen and high-purity peptides. These biotechnological routes offer a superior alternative to traditional methods, ensuring the production of stable, pure, and reliable actives with a significantly reduced environmental footprint.
Central to this transformation is the integration of digital innovation and AI-guided discovery. We will examine how artificial intelligence and generative simulations are accelerating the identification of multifunctional bioactives that target the biological root causes of aging, support microbiome health, and enhance skin resilience through neuroactive pathways.
Innovative Extraction Methods that provide sustainable routes to marine-derived bioactive compounds, including polysaccharides (fucoidan), peptides, lipids (PUFAs), and pigments (fucoxanthin), will provide therapeutic cosmetic benefits such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, skin-brightening, hydration, and anti-aging properties.
By bridging the gap between laboratory claims and real-world results, these developments define a new generation of natural fine chemicals with profound potential for targeted therapeutic cosmetic applications. Our sessions will focus on the critical convergence of biotechnology, green chemistry, and digital innovation, illustrating their collective role in shaping a more competitive, sustainable, and scientifically rigorous future for the global cosmetic industry.
