Learning Objectives:
- Apply fundamentals of rock mechanics: pore pressure and in situ stress estimation, linear elasticity, rock failure description and analysis
- Calculate displacements, strains, and stresses of opening fractures
- Evaluate stress shadow effects and investigate local stress reorientation and fracture interaction
- Analyze strain response induced by opening fractures
- Analyze near-tip stresses and determine fracture propagation direction
- Summarize hydraulic fracture treatments and modeling in unconventional reservoirs
