Course Description

Elevate your leadership game and inspire transformative change in your workplace. This MAPS course integrates coaching principles with management strategies to maximize your influence and collaboration skills. 

According to the International Coaching Federation (ICF), [C]coaching involves thought-provoking and creative processes that inspire people to maximize their potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership.

While coaching is best known as a professional service sought by individuals for professional and personal growth, it is a skill that can be transformative when used in the workplace by leaders, managers and team members.  Discover the science behind coaching and gain practical tools to guide powerful conversations with colleagues, direct reports, and stakeholders. Intended Audience

This course is designed for public and nonprofit employees at all levels who must communicate, influence and collaborate through teamwork, managing and/or leading.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

• Have an understanding of today’s unique leadership needs in the public and nonprofit sectors
• Apply coaching as a practical, professional, and fundamental workplace skill  
• Understand why coaching skills matter in public and nonprofit sectors 
• Discern coaching from traditional management skills
• Have an understanding of human behavior-related science that supports coaching as a practice and skill
• Use practical coaching skills to guide conversations with colleagues, direct reports and stakeholders

Instructor

Brandi is passionate about how strategy, culture, leadership and coaching intersect to create impactful and thriving teams through sustained change stewardship.  

Brandi has been working in and serving the Columbus community since 2003; with over 16 years of public service and now in the non-profit sector as President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity-Mid Ohio. Brandi is an instructor at the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, where she teaches about leadership, strategic planning, and change management and is a certified life and leadership coach.  

Her passion for human-centered strategy and leadership systems helps transform organizations and cultures to increase their effectiveness and impact. Before joining Habitat, Brandi was the Chief Advancement and Strategy Officer for the YMCA of Central Ohio, the Deputy Innovation Officer for the City of Columbus, Chief of Community Relations for Columbus Recreation and Parks, Deputy Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Ohio Department of Commerce and Assistant City Administrator for the City of Gahanna.

Brandi is a graduate of Leadership Columbus and a member of the 2021 Forty Under Forty Class. She has her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Public Administration. 

Brandi resides in Columbus with her husband, son, and two Pomeranians.

Waitlist
What happens if I am on a waitlist for a course? You will receive an email confirming you have been added to a waitlist. If a spot becomes available, you will be notified by email.  

CEU and CPE Policy
Attendance in this course can earn:

• 0.6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
• 7.2 Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEs)

Attendance is recorded at check-in at the start of the day, and full CEU or CPE credit is awarded based on an honor system, with the expectation that participants are present and actively engaged for the full MAPS course.

Course Certificate
Your course certificate will be emailed to you following the course. It will reflect your Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEs) earned and your attendance of the course. 

Photography
The Ohio State University may occasionally take pictures during educational events for use in program communication. If you do not want to be photographed during this course, please email the MAPS team at glenn-training@osu.edu.

MAPS Membership 
A MAPS member receives a discounted rate of $250 for each course with the initial purchase of at least 12 credits. Each credit equals one course for one individual.
