2026 Caregivers Retreat - UTHealth Houston
"To care for those who once cared for us is one of the highest honors."
About the Caregivers Retreat
The Caregivers Retreat was born in 2024 from a vision held by Crystal Walter, MPA, MSW, LCSW, a geriatric social worker with our Center for Healthy Aging. Her vision grew from her deep understanding of the unique emotional and mental challenges she experienced while caring for her father, as well as her desire to honor the lived experiences of caregivers in our community.
That vision was nurtured and supported by our clinical leadership and UT Physicians. The retreat was created as a place of rest, renewal, and recognition—a space where caregivers can feel seen, valued, and truly supported.
By bringing caregivers together, the retreat provides practical support and resources while also offering much-needed validation and connection. During the retreat, caregivers’ dedication is honored, their voices are heard, and their well-being is prioritized. Through meaningful connections, wellness activities, and shared experiences, the retreat creates opportunities to foster new friendships, regain balance and resilience, and feel supported and empowered in the vital roles they play.
The Caregivers Retreat is co-chaired by Crystal Walter, MPA, MSW, LCSW, and Cristina Murdock, MD, AGSF.
