Course Description:

RUSH MD Anderson Cancer Center Breast Symposium 2026 will take place in Chicago on May 16, 2026 at the Westin River North, Chicago, IL. In 2024, RUSH University Medical Center and MD Anderson Cancer Center formed a strategic partnership to elevate cancer care, combining expertise, innovative research and patient-centered treatment approaches. This collaboration enhances access to cutting-edge therapies, expands opportunities for groundbreaking clinical trials and strengthens our shared mission of improving outcomes for patients facing cancer. Together, we are shaping the future of oncology by integrating leading-edge science with compassionate care. The Symposium will address key challenges and advancements in breast cancer management, from surgical decision-making and innovations in radiation therapy optimization to emerging imaging techniques. With rapid progress in neoadjuvant chemotherapy, radiotherapy de-escalation and personalized treatment strategies, clinicians must stay updated on the latest evidence-based approaches. This symposium brings together experts to explore cutting-edge research, multidisciplinary strategies and novel interventions, ensuring that healthcare professionals are equipped to translate breakthroughs into improved patient outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

Evaluate current surgical and medical oncology strategies for the management of breast cancer, including nipple-sparing mastectomy, contralateral risk-reducing mastectomy, and evolving treatment algorithms for HER2+ and invasive lobular carcinoma, as well as precision oncology.

Integrate multidisciplinary perspectives from surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, breast imaging, plastic surgery, and supportive oncology to optimize individualized treatment planning for patients with breast cancer.

Apply emerging innovations and technologies in breast reconstruction, imaging, and radiation therapy—including robotic DIEP flap harvest and standardized nodal evaluation- to improve clinical outcomes and access to state of the art options for care.

Identify strategies to address survivorship and supportive care needs, including lymphedema prevention, hormone replacement therapy after breast cancer, and programs that improve access, affordability, and quality of life for patients.
