From Burnout to Belonging:  Creating a Culture Where Fundraisers Stay

In any industry, if there were an average turnover of 16 months, alarms would sound, and the problem would be addressed. Yet, in fundraising, we throw that fact around and seem resigned to the fact that employee retention is going to average less than two years. To build a team, and to be effective in serving our organization’s missions, we are going to need to address this statistic.

Dana Butler-Moburg is the CEO of The Shea Center in San Juan Capistrano who loves fundraising, fundraising staff and inspiring others to transform the world through philanthropy.  In the past 29 years of her tenure at Shea, it has grown from a very small organization to the largest equine-assisted services center in the world.  Dana creates an environment at Shea that values and inspires her team. This results in a team that measures their tenure in decades. She is the perfect source to lead an active discussion* on what works and does not work for building a cohesive fundraising team.

Originally from Seattle, she’s been a Californian for the past 37 years with her husband, three spoiled cats, and a beloved horse.

*This will be an interactive program that will need your input. Bring your ideas and your stories. This is going to be a great conversation!
