This workshop will discuss the signs and symptoms of substance use and substance use disorder. The trainers will discuss the differences between problematic and nonproblematic use as it relates to the child welfare system. This workshop will emphasize the treatment of individuals experiencing substance use from an anti-oppressive framework. Participants will be able to apply the skills learned in small group discussion during the workshop.
This workshop will be completed using an ecological systems theory framework, the hallmark theory of the social work profession, to examine the environmental influences on folks struggling with SUD in the child welfare system. This workshop also incorporates social work ethics and values throughout, both explicitly and implicitly.
